Raytown Lunch Club:

Social Noon Meals for 55+

We are investigating interest in a senior citizen luncheon event for seniors on weekdays. Forty percent of Raytown residents are over 55. In most communities, a third of this age group will be affected by loneliness because of social isolation. This affects the mental and physical health of people as well as leaving them unhappy and affects the satisfaction they looked forward to at retirement age. We are working on a program beginning with a noon meal with a suggested donation of four dollars. For those on a limited budget,  they may eat for free or whatever they can  afford.

Keep Everything

Simple

Our projected planning includes all food prepared by contributing Raytown food establishments. Because there is no food preparation on site, there is no need for an approved kitchen. The only appliances necessary would be a microwave and a refrigerator. Eating utensils , food storage and even serving utensils would be disposable eliminating the need for a commercial dishwasher. Food would be served to seniors with a choice of meats, vegetables and fruits or desserts. This allows a variety of serving choices. Without the need for cooks, labor can be limited to volunteers, many, if not most, from the more active senior citizens. Procedures and contacts would be initiated in the founding months and documented in order for the continuation of the group on a continuing basis. As a member of the founding group, I have extensive experience concerning food ranging from raising, serving, wholesaling, operating a restaurant and even University qualifications for dealing with children and food.
